Who knew that learning hip hop for the first time in a dance studio would be our passage into a whole new world - a world of histories, conflicts, identity formation and community building.
When we first decided to create this blog as a group, we realized that instead of just asking what people thought of hip hop, it was important for us to ask ourselves as well, what hip hop means to us.
When we first walked into class we thought of hip hop as just another dance form and just expected to spend our summer learning some fun choreography with attitude. However, after taking some classes and reading the stories of hip hop dancers and being exposed to its history we learnt that for some people hip hop is their culture or the community they belong to, and for others it is who they are.
This made us want to reach out and provide a platform for people to express themselves and tell their stories.
So, what is your hip hop story and what does hip hop mean to you?

For me, hip hop means a type of dance or music. It has a strong beat and lots of sharp movements. I watch a lot of SYTYCD and they do some wonderful routines there.
